Notes for 10/16 Class

Hey class!

I hope you're having a good weekend so far. Here are scripts and notes for Monday's class.

Workshop Group #4 Scripts

Attached to this email are the 3 scripts from Jackie, Alexa, and Emily. Please note, we will be workshopping Group #4 scripts as well as Darien's script (sent to you in last week's email). We're going to be spending most of class on this, so come prepared to participate.

Share & Tell

From Darien: "I thought it would be cool to watch the music video I mentioned to you once (its the one i had told you used the metaphor of “wild horses” to show the idea of setting something free, similar to the budweiser commerical. I looked into it, and the video was co-directed by Mariah Carey which I thought was cool. I think does a good job of telling a story like some of the ads/short films we’ve watched in class." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stcdNj0SANw

From Zach: "Recommending Hidden (2006) based off Soft http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387898/ Similar use of tension and twists." Here's the trailer for it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvT_9TqIEtM

Script #2 Ideas

Now that everyone has submitted their first scripts (some have even submitted their midterm revisions of script 1 at this point), it's time to start thinking about your idea for Script #2. You'll have a lot more freedom in this script (up to 15 pages MAX; unlimited locations and characters; etc.) but you will still be held accountable for the choices you make. Meaning it still needs to be a focused short film; if you have 20 characters, I'm going to question why you need all 20 to tell your story. So keep this in mind. You can also still honor the earlier set restrictions of only two characters and one location; it's up to you.

Additionally, your ideas do not have to be one of the three you sent me the first weeks of class. They can be totally new ideas. Start thinking about your ideas now. I ask that you focus on developing one really good idea versus generating three okay ideas. We'll start pitching and working on ideas on 10/23. I'll talk more about the structure of how this will work on Monday, but this is a heads up.

As always, if anyone has any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to ask. See y'all on Monday.

Best,

Rebecca
